It's okay to laugh at the situation!
At Leeza's Care Connection, we believe humor is necessary to caregiving! Levity can help us find the joy in our caregiving journeys and provide some much needed relief to what otherwise might be a depressing situation. Consider Alzheimer's disease. It is an awful disease, and there is nothing funny about it, but there are funny moments that occur. When you laugh, you’re not laughing at your loved one with the disease, you’re laughing because the moment is funny.

In fact, your laughter and positive mood sends a positive and comforting message to your loved one. As humans, we often mirror each other's emotions. Emotions are contagious! So even if your loved one has trouble communicating verbally, they are likely still able to pick up on your facial expressions and tone of voice. If you don't get upset during a challenging moment, it’s likely that they won't either. Laughing is a great way to relieve tension and reduce stress for both the caregiver and the person with Alzheimer's.

Sometimes, you have to laugh to keep from crying.
This is particularly true in caregiving! Unexpected humorous moments are common in caregiving. When your loved one offers an unprompted off beat remark or action, embracing the moment can brighten your day and bring some levity into your daily caregiving routine.

Remember, caregiving is our final walk with our loved one. It's a time to deeply consider what we want this final journey to look like and what we want to result from this time together. Do we want our days filled with despair, or do we want to find and create special moments that will stay with us throughout our lifetime? At Leeza's Care Connection, we believe in choosing JOY!
At LCC, we always make time to find joy in our time together!
